We have had an incredible year in Room 6 this year! We have challenged ourselves, enjoyed ourselves and above all, we have had so much fun learning throughout the year! On Tuesday, each child was greeted with a christmas present and here is a photo of us all. A very Merry Christmas to you all, we look forward to seeing what exciting things 2016 brings!

This year in Room 6, we have been very lucky to have had Mrs Chittenden (Paula) in our classroom one day every week. For the past term, the children have been working on their own punctuation projects on Explain Everything about different kinds of punctuation. The children have done an incredible job on these projects, here is an example of one. This one was made by Caridy.

Here in Room 6, Jayda Sharp has competing in a range of Calf and Lamb day shows across the Taranaki region, along with her brother Ashton and Auroa school students. She has had amazing success over the past two weekends! We are all so proud of your achievements Jayda!

Today at Auroa school, we had a 'SUMO BOT' competition. This was one of the options in our junior steam programme last term, and today there was a competition held for it. A massive congratulations to Zayden in our class who took out 1st place. We are all very proud of you!

An incredible night was had on Tuesday at the Sandford's Event centre with the four cluster schools celebrating digital excellence. Room 6 were nominated in four different categories which we were incredibly proud of! Now we can share with you our videos and images!

For the MOA awards, three girls in our classroom decided to do an iPad safety rap. Sadly, these girls did not make the finalists for this category. Here in Room 6, we have been very busy completing 5 art projects all ready for Calf and Lamb day today! The children had to create a sand-saucer, barn-shed, Rugby World Cup t-shirt, observational drawing and submit a photo. The children did an amazing job! A special thank you to all the parents that came in and helped us over the past few days, we couldn't have done it without your help! Here are a few photos from each of the categories. Yesterday, Auroa School had our own Science Fair! Over the past two terms, each classroom has been working exceptionally hard on producing a range of projects that are based around our, 'AKO inquiry cycle'. It was a brilliant success with the hall looking amazing! Well-done everyone!
With one more week until the end of term, everybody is working hard to get their projects completed! Mia, Isabella and Ivanah have been in 3D printing this term and last week the girls received their final product, a glow-in-the-dark bookmark! Fantastic work girls!

Room 6 had a great afternoon last Monday with learning how to play golf. They learnt how to hit it soft, hard, long and short. A great range of skills for the children to learn! We even have a few golf pro's within our classroom with Jayda and Jayden being active members of the Manaia Golf Club. We had an awesome time learning this sport!
Here in Room 6, we have had many more children with a range of sport successes! Here is a group of children in our class with a range of certificates and medals. A very big congratulations from our classroom to these students, we are very proud of you all!

Our junior school are well into the Junior Steam programme and all buzzing about the amazing projects they are working on! Caridy and Caitlin brought back their robot from their project that they are working. We can't wait to see the final product girls!

Last Friday at Auroa School, we remembered those special ones on Daffodil day. The children were able to purchase a range of items at our school daffodil stall. Our classroom was decorated in beautiful yellow daffodils! Here is a few photos of some of the children in Room 6 with their items.

Room 6 have had some very busy, and creative, afternoons this week! With the science fair coming up in two weeks, the children of Room 6 have been busy conducting their own experiment around a, 'wondering', that they wanted to explore. This term, Room 6 are exploring the concept of 'Change', through, 'Absorption'. Last week, the children were engaged in four different rotational activities that all were to do with absorption. There was tinfoil, paper towels, sugar cubes and sponges. The children loved exploring this concept through different products. Here is are a video of the children sharing their learning!

A fantastic day was spent at Auroa School on Friday. To celebrate Matariki, the tradition of the Maori New Year, our four whanau's spent the day doing a range of different activities that reflected the cultural customs and traditions of Matariki. Our whanau, Auroa, made Te Rakau sticks, learnt a waiata, and we also planted some root vegetables. At the beginning of the Maori New Year, new vegetables are harvested and ready for feasting. This week, we have had a few very chilly mornings! One morning, we all arrived at school with frozen hail pieces outside our classroom door and around the school. A couple of the boys in Room 6 decided to go for an ice hunt and came back in with their ice trophies!
To show our learning about Science, we have been designing Pic-Collages. Here is Ivanah's and Caridy's creative pieces! Caridy created one about how we put cream into a jar and shook it until it turned into butter. Ivanah created one about our egg and vinegar experiment. We put an egg into a jar of vinegar and left it for a few days. Then the egg shell dissolved and we had a rubbery egg!

Over the past few weeks, Room 6 have been involved in a range of Science experiments that are all based around our unit of AKO unit of 'Change'. We have learnt how to form an hypothesis and method. This week we also dissolved Epsom Salts to create art paintings. When the paintings dried, we could see the crystals! Here is a snapshot of some of the different projects we have been working on!

In Room 6 this week, we have been involved in a range of activities to learn about ANZAC day and what this means to us. We have read stories, designed our own 'Poppy Field', began creating a 'ANZAC Puppet Pals' video and finally, we all wrote a piece of writing about a hero in our life. To display this work, we tea-bagged it to make it look antique. We think they look amazing!

We were very lucky to have Jono (who is part of the New Zealand Police) come into our school yesterday and talk to us about how to use our bike safely. We learnt about the correct signals to use when biking on the roads, as well as the different parts of a bike. At the end, we enjoyed some time zooming around the courts to show off what we had learnt!
