A fantastic day was spent at Auroa School on Friday. To celebrate Matariki, the tradition of the Maori New Year, our four whanau's spent the day doing a range of different activities that reflected the cultural customs and traditions of Matariki. Our whanau, Auroa, made Te Rakau sticks, learnt a waiata, and we also planted some root vegetables. At the beginning of the Maori New Year, new vegetables are harvested and ready for feasting. Here are a few photos of what Auroa did and a video and link from McKenna and Lexi.
